Cortez Animal Bed & Breakfast was built and opened for business in July of 1995. After five years the business had grown, and expansion was necessary. In 2000 an addition was made doubling the kennel size. During Covid pandemic business was steady. The past three years has shown an increase of 10% gross income per year. Currently Cortez Animal Bed & Breakfast offers a variety of services. Customers come from all over the Four Corners including Blanding Utah, Durango, Telluride and New Mexico. The 2688 sf structure on 2.15 acres includes forty-four indoor outdoor dog kennels. The kennels are 4' x 6' inside and 4' x 6' outside, separated by a retractable door. The outdoor kennel has a gate that allows the dog access to an outside play yard (the facility has four grass play yards). These yards can be shared by supervised groups or individual dogs. The kennels are large enough to support multiple dogs, many families have multiple dogs that wish to be housed in the same kennel. Cortez Animal Bed & Breakfast has housed as many as eighty-six dogs at one time. At nighttime the dogs are housed inside where it is heated in the winter. Cots are available for elderly clients. Currently they offer day boarding or long-term boarding. Cats are housed indoor in the nine enclosures. Showroom offers dog and cat toys, training aids, food, miscellaneous medications, grooming supplies and treats. Business has 3 groomers for dogs. The grooming is very popular they have to require appointments as it is a four-week waiting period. The return customers books months in advance which grooming has increased substantially in the last three years. Dog training is offered with classes or one on one. The classes are very popular and there is always a waiting list to get in. The yard has a 6' chain link and Sprinkler System with timer. Grooming room has a mini split for heat and air conditioning, showroom has forced air, radiant heat in the remaining part of the building.
