This time of year, in the limbo season of late winter just before the arrival of spring, when the days are still short and chilly, we at Team Northstar like to visit our favorite spots that remind us why we love Durango so much. Although we’ve had a fairly mild winter this year, it can be easy to become impatient and to start longing for those luxurious and warm summer days.

In these moments, Tiare likes to make the quick trip over to the Durango Hot Springs, just a short 15-minute drive from downtown. While the hot springs are a delightful reprieve any time of year, Tiare finds them especially relaxing on one of those dark cold evenings, when you just need to exhale and let your troubles wash away for a little while. The lovely, quiet getaway is close enough to town to visit on a week night, and it’s just far enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown to feel like you’ve gotten a mini vacation.

Monique, also likes to escape the busyness of town. While it’s a little easier to get out into nature in the summer, there are a few hidden gems in the area that are accessible all-year-round. Monique enjoys finding a little solitude and getting back in touch with the great outdoors. Fishing on the Florida River is an ideal way to spend a weekend afternoon and chase away your winter doldrums on a snow-crusted bank by babbling waters.

If you happen to be more of an extrovert like Kylie, and you need a some social contact on those cold winter evenings, head downtown to the Derailed Pour House. It’s right on Main Street in the heart of Durango. They have a delicious menu and there is often live music. This is a great spot to meet up with friends and share stories and laughs over craft beers and tasty house cocktails.

Whether you need to relax, get back in touch with nature, find a social outlet, or discover another cure for the shoulder season blues, we at Team Northstar are happy to help you find the best way to make Durango feel like home.
